Thunderstorm below Fuji

Picture
Thunderstorm below Fuji
In April 1996 I had taken medical leave from teaching, and began to take art classes at the Art League of Houston. Patrick Palmer's Friday class took up linoleum block printing and I took to it like a religious conversion. Hokusai's "Rainstorm beneath the Summit" was my first project.  I did eight or ten other designs based on Japanese postage stamps over the next months. This is a more well-crafted version of the first made after three years of printmaking classes at the Glassell School.
Printed in three color varieties:
deep blue
light blue
chalky blue
