Under the moon in the garden
The pale lilies sleep and sway. Ant thou, dear white flower-woman Sleep thou until the day! |
Image Size: 4.26" x 5.87" [10.83 cm x 14.9 cm] (width x height)
Date: 16 May 2023 Production: I scanned page 21 of Two in Arcadia, 1907 Brentanos, by Lucine Finch and redesigned each of the 6 color separations to facilitate printing and clarify the image. Using laserprints of each I coated blocks of unmounted linoleum [McClain's Printmaking Supplies] cut to size, with 10% mat gel medium / water and placed image face down. After drying thoroughly, I rubbed off the paper layer to preserve the carbon image. I cut each block and printed, one color per day until completed. $37.50 USD Shipping available USA $15.00 with tracking $750 MXN in the studio Page 21: 1907 overlay with 2024
The poem starts ¨Under the moon in the garden¨ but the pale green scene does not suggest a nighttime mood. I changed the sky to a deep blue more resonant of a night scene, preserving the foreground and mid-ground greenish tones, but with a stronger blue cast. To balance the blues, I brought in the yellow lily, Echeandia flavescens (Torrey's Craglily), characteristic of the highlands of Arizona and New Mexico as well as Central Mexico where I now live. |
