The sun is the flame of the desert,
And you are the flame of my heart! Dreary indeed is the desert unsunned, And dreary without you, my heart. |

Using laserprints of each I coated blocks of unmounted linoleum [McClain's Printmaking Supplies] cut to size, with 10% mat gel medium / water and placed image face down. After drying thoroughly, I rubbed off the paper layer to preserve the carbon image. I cut each block and printed one color per day until completed. $37.50 USD Shipping available USA $15.00 with tracking $750 MXN in the studio Page 16: 1907 overlay with 2024
My version of this image was inspired by a trip to Troncones on the Mexican Pacific coast of Guerrero. There I watched a deep reddish moon set into the sea as the sun began to dawn behind me. The effect was magical and intense. For the design here, I brought more detail to the palm and changed the mid-ground to suggest an ocean rather than a desert (in violation of the nature of the poem, it might be added). I brought the horizon down to reveal the full orb of the moon, lightened the saturation and changed the color from a flat, dead red to a luminous orange. |
